Introduction to Drones

What is a drone?

A drone (UAV, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is a flying device controlled remotely or flying autonomously via pre-programmed instructions, with no pilot on board. Originally a military technology, drones are now widespread in filming, agriculture, surveying, search-and-rescue, and even sport (FPV racing).

Main components

• Frame: The structural body that holds everything together.
• Motors & Propellers: Generate lift and enable directional control.
• Flight Controller: The "brain" that processes sensor data and commands the motors.
• ESC (Electronic Speed Controller): Regulates motor speed based on flight controller commands.
• Battery: Usually LiPo, chosen for its high energy-to-weight ratio.
• RX/TX: Transmits control signals between the remote and the drone.

Common drone types

1. Multirotor (quadcopter, hexacopter, etc.) — easiest to fly, versatile, most common.
2. Fixed-wing — flies like a plane, long endurance, used for wide-area surveying.
3. FPV racing drone — lightweight, high-speed, flown through FPV goggles.

Why is drone technology growing so fast in Vietnam?

Falling component costs, a growing knowledge-sharing community, and real-world applications in agriculture (crop spraying), filmmaking, and entertainment are all drawing more hobbyists and young engineers into the field.
